(500) Days of Summer

Sunday, July 12, 2009 ♥ 4

First shown at the Sundance Film Festival 2009, I simply cannot wait until (500) Days of Summer hits the big screen! It is a story about Tom (Joseph Gordon-Levitt), a failed-architect who ends up working as a copywriter at a greeting card company, coming up with romantic mush. There, he meets the girl of his dreams - truest of true, loveliest of love: Summer (played by Zooey Deschanel. Yay!). While Tom believes in a "lighting-only-strikes-once", forever-and-always kind of love (my kind of guy! hee hee), Summer, unfortunately, does not share the same belief and breaks up with him. Tom then dissects the 500 days spent together with Summer - shown in vignettes that jump back and forth between the present and past - trying figure out what went wrong, whilst learning about exes, relationships, and what it means to love and to have lost; to break apart and to reconcile.
